Pop Eater is reporting that Sara Gilbert, best known for her longtime role as Darlene on the hit sitcom 'Roseanne', has spoken about her sexuality, and about being a lesbian mother in a committed relationship, for the first time.

Those of us who have followed Gilbert's career and occasional press cuttings will not be surprised by her official - albeit quiet - confirmation this week about her sexual preference. She has been widely known as a homosexual for many years, though she never said anything about it.

It really never mattered; a celebrity isn't required to make a huge entrance into the gay world, with full fanfare and an live audience watching the moment occur with bated breath -- though this does seem to be the standard practice lately.

Instead, she came out to the world in a casual moment during a press conference for the Television Critics Association, where she said she had been living with her partner, television producer Allison Adler, for eight years, and they had had two children together, Levi who is five, and Sawyer who is three.

Her small announcement was followed by a discussion on her new show "The Talk", where she was a little more open about what it was like to come out.

I don't ever really think of things as being out or in ... I just think I am who I am, and when topics come up that are appropriate, I'll talk about them and share when it seems right.

"I've been acting my whole life, and I've never really discussed my personal life. This is a talk show, so obviously, I'm going to be discussing my life more, and I felt that the first place I wanted to do it wasn't in a CBS press release. It just seemed impersonal, and I felt like I'd rather come in person and talk to you about all that stuff here."
