It is indeed the wedding of the year if not the decade and the tabloids and the regular news media have been buzzing about the pending nuptials of Chelsea Clinton, the only daughter of former President Clinton and current Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton. Chelsea is betrothed to Marc Mezvinski, an investment banker and they have been together for quite sometime. The groom comes from good pedigree too: his mother is a former congress woman who once represented a district in Pennsylvania.

There are some mysteries surrounding the nuptials because no one knows who, among the top designers, received the coveted task of making the former first daughter’s wedding dress. The nuptials will take place in the Hudson Valley and many from the A-list denizens from all walks of life are rumored to be invited to Chelsea’s wedding. The father of the bride, President Clinton, has reportedly told friends that Chelsea requested that he lose some fifteen pounds before he walk her down the aisle.

The wedding guess is said to number 400 to 500, and as stated above, they will run the gamut from celebrities to politicians: rumored to attend are Bono, The Edge, Steven Spielberg and his wife, Kate Capshaw, Vernon Jordan, Lady Lynn Forester de Rothschild, and Elizabeth Bagley, the former Ambassador to Portugal. Those who were not invited to the wedding are just as notable as those who were invited – those, apparently, not having enough “juice” with the Clintons include: President Obama; Al and Tipper Gore (for obvious reasons); and former British Prime Minister, Tony Blair. No one knows for sure if Oprah Winfrey was invited… there are speculations that because Oprah was a supporter of President Obama during the heated primaries - where the President bested the former first lady - might be the reason why Oprah might not have been invited to Chelsea’s wedding.

Not everyone is happy to have the nuptial in Hudson Valley – there are those who are complaining about the cars, guests, and the invasion of privacy by the media. It is reported that the air space surrounding the wedding area will be restricted, so that it will become essentially a no-fly-zone. I wish Chelsea a long marriage and all the attendant blessings thereof – it seems like only yesterday when I used to see the freckled face, denture wearing, young girl in the White House.
