[/caption]I was watching a movie last Friday and before the movie started, they played the new Old Spice commercial and the packed audience, there to see 'Salt' was dying with laughter. The audience’s reaction was the same I have had every time I have seen that Old Spice commercial.
The actor behind the bravado and boasts depicted in the Old Spice spots name is Isaiah Mustafa, and Reuters is reporting what the rest of Hollywood, I, and the audience at the Salt movie know… that this man is gifted.
Mr. Mustafa is a former professional football player, and his stint as the spokesperson for Old Spice has increased the deodorant sales some 107% . In addition, the ads have even been nominated for an Emmy, with some 58 million watching the spots on You Tube.
It is ironic that profits have increased so drastically because of the spots – Mr. Mustafa said that he missed the first audition for the job. But because they hadn’t found the right person he was given another chance, and the rest is history.
Mr. Mustafa has since secured roles in the Jennifer Aniston movie, “Terrible Bosses”, Tyler Perry’s new movie, and a stint in the upcoming season of the cult spy favorite, “Chuck.” He has also received and secured a talent agreement with NBC.
With all the good fortune that have been bestowed on Mr. Mustafa due to the Old Spice ads, he hopes one day to host Saturday Night Live. I have no doubt that he would be up to the comedic challenge and I, along with the public, wait to see if he can transfer his abilities displayed in the ads to the silver screen.
