A couple days ago, I saw the cast of the “Jersey Shore” ringing the opening bell down at Wall Street. I am almost certain that if the old Soviet Union were still in existence, their intelligence would have come - after this travesty down at Wall Street - to the conclusion that America is finished.

Somebody honestly tell me, what does the “Jersey Shore” contribute to our pop culture? Truth be told, my little sister thinks it's all the rage, but then again, she once had dreams of grandeur of at least dating singer George Michael.

For those of us who grew up viewing actual shows like “Seinfeld” and “Cheers,” it is shocking, to say the least, that there are reality shows on the air contributing dross to the culture. I shudder to think what my daughter will be viewing when she is of age.

All is not lost though, because CNN is reporting that President Obama, who just appeared on the view, was ignorant of who Snooki was, and supposedly the cast of “Jersey Store”. Perhaps I am wrong about the show, because I would have never thought that President Obama would have seen fit to be on " The View.” Joy Behar makes a punched drunk boxer articulate - but then again, what do I know?

When I go on a rant like this on pop culture, my sister intimates that it’s because I am old. I don’t think so, I am simply berating the fact that there are legitimate actors out there – I see them all the time working at Applebees and the like – struggling to get a shot at fame, and to have the cast of “Jersey Shore” now making $25,000 an episode...

Then again, if MTV is making a killing, the cast should be compensated. I have the distinct feeling that I might be seeing future reality stars like Snooki being honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
