After a lot of discussion about the new iPhone 4 antenna problem, Apple announced that they were going to hold a press conference which many were hoping would bring a solution for the antenna issues.

Several media outlets followed the event live. One of them, Twitter's macrumorslive, wraps up the Question and Answer period: "Lots of defending of Apple's position that this is a common problem across smartphones. Not much other information".

Steve Jobs addressed the issue:

"You can see pictures of a Nokia phone with a sticker on it that says “don’t touch here.” No one has solved this problem. Would I love Apple be the first? Can we make our situation better than it is right now?

"Maybe, we’ll see, but most of our customers are not experiencing this problem. In actual use, they never encounter it — just like any phone, certain customers will hold it in a way that exposes its weakness, and we want to get ‘em a case. We will continue to work on more advanced antenna designs that don’t have this problem or put this problem in an out of the way place."

The solution for the antenna issue is a free case for those that seem to be bothered by it. As zdnet.com puts it:
"Apple noted that you can get a free bumper case (or a refund if you’ve already purchased one) and that since they can’t make bumpers fast enough, you’ll be able to select from a choice of cases on the Apple website starting late next week.

iPhone 4 customers still have the option of returning the phone for a full refund, with no restocking fee within 30 days."

During the conference it was also announced by Apple that the White iPhone 4 will be available by the end of July and will start shipping. The iPhone 4 is also going to be available in 17 additional countries on July 30, including:

* Australia
* Austria
* Belgium
* Canada
* Denmark
* Finland
* Hong Kong
* Ireland
* Italy
* Luxembourg
* Netherlands
* Norway
* New Zealand
* Singapore
* Spain
* Sweden
* Switzerland
