It is often said that if there is one government agency in America that does not care who it offends, and it’s the IRS. We have all heard of the travails of the rich and famous – such as Willie Nelson - who have run afoul of the IRS’ rules, and suffer the consequences.
There are those who are less fortunate who have seen the bad side of the IRS too, but not the rich, who supposedly could afford to pay.
According to the New York Times, it may be time to add in another celebrity who might be wearing orange prison garb for breaching the IRS’s tax rules.
Mr. Snipes is alleged to have not paid taxes on some $38 million of earnings he made during his movie career. No doubt that Mr. Snipes have had some big hits, including the “Blade” series.
Mr. Snipes had appealed a three-year sentence handed down during the initial trial and now has lost that appeal. There were two bases for his appeal: a change of venue from Florida to New York, and that the lower court should have considered probation during the conclusion of the initial trial.
With this latest outcome, it seems like Mr. Snipes will have to serve his time in Federal prison, but no one knows when he has to report to the authorities.
I say to Mr. Snipes that the Bible says that Jesus commanded the Apostle Peter to procure a fish, which had the money in its mouth for the Savior’s taxes - if the Christ can render unto Caesar, why not you?
