[/caption]Forbes Magazine recently gave us the tally of what celebrities made during their respective tours and incorrectly it chose U2 as number one. Forbes is not the only magazine that gets the math wrong, because Rolling Stones magazine does it too.
These are the numbers for the recent tours undertaken by the listed artists: U2 made a $130 million from their world tour, ACDC made $114 million, Beyonce made $83 million, Lady Gaga made $62 million, and Jay Z made $63 million.
Look at the numbers...maybe it is I who is not capable of doing the math. Why is it that U2 is chosen as number one for having the most successful tour when the loot has to be split some four ways, which means that the division would give us over 32 plus million each for Bono, Mullen, The Edge, and the other member of U2?
The same can be said about ACDC’s take; it has to be split among four members – no doubt that Angus and his brother, Malcolm, will probably take the bulk of the $114 million, but nonetheless, how can they be the number two?
You have probably “peeped” my pattern and followed my method of madness, which will bring you to the conclusion that the order of who made what should be: Beyonce at $83 million; Jay Z at $63 million; Lady Gaga at $62 million; and U2 and ACDC bringing up the rear. This is so because Beyonce is touring by herself – like her husband Jay Z and Lady Gaga, she doesn’t have to share the net proceeds of her tour like how U2 and ACDC must do.
Why is the math calculated in this manner? Is it just bias to give the band the magazines like the “shine” and the glory? Does it make it better headlines for the magazines if certain bands are reported to be the top earners? To the writers of Rolling Stones and Forbes’ magazine, it is a simple case of math, or perhaps, I am wrong.
