The Washington Post is reporting that Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner was on display for all the potential buyers to see during the Farnborough International Air Show.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner has been delayed for years, and there are hopes that the two year downturn in the defense and the airline business is at an end.
Boeing is hoping that its' newest addition will be the model used to build planes for the next 80 years – the company also says that there may be further delivery problems, blamed on administrative issues, which may caused the delay of its 787 of the plane until 2011.
Economic concerns are foremost on the minds of the aircraft makers. It is expected that buyers from the emerging markets will cause sales in the commercial sector to rise, but that defense sales will be stagnant.
Incidentally, there is a ongoing battle being waged between Boeing and Airbus worth $35 billion, to build the United States Air Force aerial fuel tankers.
Another trend that the two main aircraft builders must take into serious consideration is the inroads being made by other builders like Canada’s Bombardier, and Brazil’s Embraer. This growing threat to the Airbus and Boeing’s duopoly comes from the two upstarts, which are building, competing, and selling their respective mid-size jets.
No one is forecasting that this year’s shows will produced the record $88.7 billion of 2008, but there are hopes that it would get close to those numbers.
It is projected that during the Farnborough air shows, some 38 countries and over 1,000 exhibitors will be in attendance – first time attendees include countries such as Egypt, Taiwan, and Morocco, with growing interests from seasoned players like China and Russia.
The Washington Post believes that the actual buyers of aircrafts will probably come from Qatar and the rich Gulf States – it is rumored that the Emirates are prepared to purchase some 30 airlines from Boeing. However, Boeing has not confirmed this potential block buster sale from the Emirates.
We also reported how the Boeing 787 meets Boeing model 40 at 12,000 Feet.
