Not since Ken Lay, the late CEO of the now defunct Enron, has the fortunes changed so much for a CEO like those of Tony Hayward of BP.
The BBC is now reporting that Mr. Hayward will be forced to step down shortly and sent out to pasture. Unless you have been in a coma for the last three months or so, you are privy to the travails of Mr. Hayward.
In addition to being the CEO of BP at the helm of an oil company during the most devastating ecological disaster to date, Mr. Hayward is now being asked to leave his job at BP.
Hayward's leaving may not be the end of his trials. Some legislators here are seeking to call him to Washington to inquire if he made a deal on the behalf of BP to free the Libyan terrorist that brought down the airliner over Lockerbie, for BP’s rights to oil exploration in Libya.
These American law makers are questioning and intimating that BP was allegedly involved in a nefarious deal to secure BP’s rights to explore oil prospects in Libya. For this favor from the Libyans, BP is suspected to have interceded on the behalf of the Libyan terrorist, who was responsible for the bombing of Pam Am flight 203 over Lockerbie.
No formal subpoena has been had to force Mr. Hayward to testify, but the calls are becoming louder for those in the know to testify what were the dealings among BP, England, Scotland, and Libya.
Do not feel sorry for Mr. Hayward, at least financially - he is being given some 11 million pounds to walk away from his CEO position. The Gaffe-prone Hayward can now enjoy his yacht and get his life back, as he opined during one of the unfortunate speaking sessions he had with the reporters concerning the Gulf spill.
