[/caption]As if there was not enough controversy surrounding LeBron James’ decision to join Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh to play in Miami, Dan Gilbert, owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers franchise, is adding his opinion to the mix. After LeBron’s announcement of his decision last night via a live special aired by ESPN, Dan Gilbert decided to write a letter to the Cavalier fans expressing his disappointment and echoing the anger that a lot of Cleveland fans felt upon hearing LeBron’s choice.
The sternly worded letter reflects what a lot of Cavs fans were already thinking, without using a few choice explicit words that most Cleveland fans would probably include.
It starts out by casting LeBron as the “former hero” of the region, who has deserted the team that helped to build him to what he is today.
Gilbert then goes on to bash the media buzz leading up to the moment that LeBron would announce his pick, by calling it a “several day, narcissistic, self-promotional build-up culminating with a nation TV special… unlike anything ever ‘witnessed’ in the history of sports.”
Later in the letter, Gilbert capitalizes his blatant promise to all Cleveland Cavalier fans that the Cavalier program will bring home a NBA championship before the “King” can do so with his dream team in Miami.
This letter, as strongly worded and promising as it sounds, might fail in its intentions to bring hope to Cavs fans. Sports announcers are already comparing the Wade, Bosh, James lineup to the dynasty that Rodman, Jordan, and Pippen established in the 90’s.
Only time will tell if Gilbert can keep his promise to the Cavs fans and secure a national title before the King and Co. trample the hopes and dreams of Cleveland lovers even more.
