Do you recognize this symbol? Have you seen it light up on the instrument panel of your car? It looks like a U-shaped pictograph with treads and an exclamation point in the middle.
Can you guess what it means now that you have had it described?
If your guess was a low tire-pressure warning, you were right. It's a symbol that's there to alert you that your tire pressure is low. If you didn't guess that, that's very understandable. According to Shrader, a company that makes tire pressure monitoring systems, one out of three drivers do not know what it represents.

There is only one problem with this system, the public hasn't been properly educated on the warning symbol, which, by the way, is supposed to be "idiot proof" and understandable across a wide variety of cultures and languages. However, 46% of drivers couldn't figure out that the icon represents a tire and 14% thought that the symbol represented whole different problem with the vehicle.
Properly inflated tires are vitally important to your safety and your vehicle's efficiency. Low tire pressure will affect your braking, stability, acceleration, cornering and fuel economy. You rely on all of the above variables in getting to your destination safely.
Now you know that this symbol represents low tire pressure and if you see it lit up on your instrument panel you should park your vehicle as soon as possible and check all of your tires to ensure that they are properly inflated, and if they are not, you should see to it that you get them inflated.
