Apple could possibly be developing a computer that combines the iPad with the iMac. Basically what it would be is a touch screen desktop computer. It would combine the functions of the two of them and would be a very cool new product.

Patently Apple, a blog that publishes patents filed by Apple and uses these to speculate about future products, unveiled a European patent and images late Monday under the headline, "The Mother Lode: Welcome to the iMac Touch."

Images from the patent show a computer mounted on a flexible base that allows it to be put in a horizontal position, letting people use it as a touch screen.

According to the blog post, the patent also outlines how the computer would switch from the iMac's operation system, OS X, to iOS, the system that runs the iPad and iPhones. It says that it would switch operating systems when the display is rotated a predefined number of degrees.

It's a very awesome looking product, and we look forward to seeing it if it ever comes onto the market.

Of course, just because the patent was filed doesn't mean that it will be built. The company, like other technology manufacturers, have filed numerous patents on products that change drastically before hitting the market, or that disappear altogether. It's even been suggested that the company may file misleading patents.

This new iMac would definitely be useful to graphic designers and photographers. It would enable them to use the large screen of the iMac as a drawing board for building images and editing photographs. This is something that hasn't been possible with Apple products up until now, so this would be a great addition to the already fantastic line of Apple computers.
