Notice to all you "texters" out there: You have a new hero. Recently, The Fastest Text Message record had been broken by Melissa Thompson of Salford, England.

It was as much a marketing gimmick by Samsung as it was a world record attempt. Thompson used the SWYPE keybad on the manufacturer's Galaxy S phone to gain the new title. She beat Franklin Page's record of 35.54 seconds with her new record of 25.94 seconds.

The particular sentence she typed was, "The razor-toothed piranhas of the genera Serrasalmus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world. In reality they seldom attack a human."

Now, that's quite a "thumbful" however, she was able to do it, and you should be astonished! The above sentence is the one that is used to judge the world record. It's made to be a bit complicated and to use words that the ordinary person doesn't know to ensure that it's a true test of your texting ability.

The SWYPE method of texting is a special kind of keyboard available on Android devices. Basically, you just have to swipe your finger across the letters you wish to use in your word and the device will automatically make it into the word. Surprisingly it's very accurate and it uses a large database of words to ensure that it makes your sentence right. It enables you to input letters and words at breakneck speed.

Some people might think that using this new input method defeats the purpose of the record, but hey, it's just like T9, but the newest way. You could argue that it's not the usual way of texting, but still, thousands of people use this so it's fair to judge speed with this input method.
