The high powered magnet sets were labeled "Ages 13+" but they don't meet the mandatory toy standard which requires that such powerful magnets are not sold for children under 14.
There were two incidences of children swallowing the balls. Since March 2010, Buckyballs high powered magnets sets were labeled "Keep Away From All Children" and are not being recalled anymore.
These balls are safe for adults, however, around children they pose a choking hazard. Of course that doesn't mean that adults can swallow them.
I don't think I've ever seen a real desk that didn't have a toy of some sort on it. Usually the toy is some puzzle or other gimmick with which you can play for hours and hours when you're bored. Well, the Buckyballs are, according to the getbuckyballs.com website, almost impossible to put down.
Each ball has a "positive" and "negative" magnetic pole. These poles enable the balls to interact with each other and allow them to somewhat keep their shape when they are put together.
You can purchase a set for $29.95 and it contains 216 of these powerful little magnetic "Buckyballs". If you purchase 2 sets, you get free shipping, which is great because normally shipping costs $5.95. The price might seem a bit expensive, however, if they're really that addicting and fun to use, maybe they're worth it.
The product has been featured in several magazines including Thinkgeek, Esquire, Maxim, People and Rolling Stone. The website that sells them has been Facebook "liked" almost 5,000 times. People magazine calls them "Addictive," and RealSimple said that they're "much more satisfying than a stress ball."

Both of the above statements are true. They're true because, of course it's more satisfying to make something than to just squeeze a rice filled ball. Also, it's pretty addicting when you get to making some pretty cool things with these Buckyballs.
