BlackBerry's App World 2.0 is finally leaving beta status. It's now live and available for everyone. There are a lot of beneficial features of the App World 2.0. There is a much more flexible pricing scheme, there is the very welcome arrival of wireless and credit card billing options, and the introduction of "Top 25" app lists. Users can arrange these lists by theme, release date, or update status.

As well, the refitting of this 'world' includes two new policies. Both of these policies were already inherent in Android and iPhone devices, however, they are still welcomed with semi opened arms on the BlackBerry. One of them is great while the other one is not so great for developers.

The first is that the App World enables QR capabilities in version 2.0. This means that BlackBerry owners can now "discover new apps by scanning barcodes at events, online, in print, or even on your friend's BlackBerry smartphone." This is pretty useful to app hunters and other app enthusiasts and also, if you see something an app that you would like, but you don't want to write it down, you can just scan it.

The other policy is that RIM has changed their revenue-sharing percentages. BlackBerry app developers once used to enjoy an unrivaled 80/20 percentage split. That's pretty fantastic for the developers, but BlackBerry realized that both the Android and iPhone percentages are 30/70, so they had followed suit and now, BlackBerry developers earn less money.

This last policy might have a bad effect for BlackBerry. If you develop a best-seller app for the iPhone or the Android, you will earn a lot more money than if you develop a best-selling app for the BlackBerry, this is simply because there are a lot more app enthusiast in the iPhone and Android world than there are in the BlackBerry world.

However, BlackBerry might gain a few more users just because they now have the ability to sell a lot more apps and also, they have more apps available, and if there's one thing that people are looking for in today's smartphones, it's apps, apps and more apps.
