On Saturday, August 28, there was a very large rally in Washington D.C. It was headed by Glenn Beck, a well known conservative. The rally was named the "Restoring Honor" rally. Glenn Beck is very well known criticizer of President Barack Obama.
There were hundreds of thousands of people present at this rally. Many of them opposed Glenn Beck, while many supported him. The crowd stretched densely from the Lincoln Memorial way back to the World War II Memorial. It spilled onto the hill at the Washington Monument and onto the fields north and south of the reflecting pool. Hundreds of people were also streaming from south and downtown streets as well as metro stations.
Close to the stage, the crowd had a stadium-like atmosphere with sporadic cheers, chants and clapping. Beck's decision to schedule the rally on the King anniversary and his pledge to "reclaim the civil right movement" drew criticism, however, Beck said that it was not intentional and attributed the dated to "divine providence."
The reason that he was holding the rally is that he believes that the United States has "wandered in the darkness" for too long.
What a lot of people don't understand is that by criticizing President Obama they aren't improving things. All they're doing is spreading bad feelings and other things like that. What they should be doing is trying to actually talk to him and tell him what they would like to improve. You can contact the White House here.
One thing that many people were upset about was the fact that President Obama went on vacation. They said that he is just living the life and not really caring about the people. You don't simply become president because you want to live in the White House. You have to really care about the people of the United States and you have to work extremely hard to even get close to becoming president. Almost every job in the United States allows you to take a vacation. Why shouldn't the President be allowed to take one?

Manny attendees wore American-flag inspired clothing including t-shirts and caps. They occasional broke into chants of "USA. USA."
Beck had billed "Restoring Honor" as a non-political salute to the military, proceeds after expenses are going to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation -- a nonprofit organization that provides scholarships to children of Special Ops troops killed in action or training.
During the rally Beck awarded what he called "civilian" medals of honor. They were modeled on the military's Purple Heart with themes of faith, hope and charity.
Beck focused a lot on the spiritual and religion. Beck even said that what was happening at this rally had nothing to do with politics, "and everything to do with God."
The event lasted for more than 3 hours. Almost 300,000 people attended it.
When the military was mentioned, cheers rose up and people began chanting for the USA.
All in all, it was a huge rally and it may or may not have a big effect on the United States. Time will tell...
