Jay Mariotti was arrested this morning in Los Angeles. He was accused of having committed domestic violence. The charge for domestic violence is a felony under the laws of California. The event occurred at 4:30 AM. This is based on information published by TMZ.
Currently, he is being held on a $50,000 bail.
Jay Mariotti is the ESPN personality, as well as being a very popular sports writer, so his being arrested was not expected.
Mariotti is a national columnist for Fanhouse.com, and as well, he is a regular contibutor for Around the Horn. The talk show is very popular on ESPN.
He doesn't have a known violence history, so many people are surprised about this. He has had a few incidents throughout his career, but nothing big.
It's questioned what his being arrested with a felony charge will mean for his career, as that's not something that many people would want to mess with.
It might be a mistake though, and maybe he will be able to get out of it okay. We will just have to wait and see.
Jay Mariotti was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He went to Ohio University, but did not graduate, as far as sources know at the time of writing. He works as a panelist on Around the Horn from ESPN. Before that he worked as a sports commentator for Radio shows.
Mariotti is also known as a sports writer. He covered sports for the Detroit News and then for the Denver Post. In 1991 Mariotti moved from Denver to Chicago and started to write or the Chicago Sun-Times. The job at the Sun Times lasted until 2008.
From 2009 until 2010 Mariotti wrote for AOL Sports. In 2010 Jay Mariotti moved from Chicago to Los Angeles.
