A Pew poll’s result revealed earlier this week that one in five Americans think that “President Obama is a Muslim”. Then Time magazine ventured into the poll game, soon after Obama supported Muslim’s rights to build a mosque close to Ground Zero. Newsweek reports that according to the latest poll carried out by Time magazines, 24% Americans believe that Obama is a Muslim. Republicans are more suspicious about Obama’s faith as 46% of the republican participants of the Time magazine’s poll believe Obama follows Islam as religion. The White House promptly responded to the affair, saying that President Obama is not only a Christian but he also “prays every day.”
However, America’s famous evangelist and priest Franklin Graham explained the whole issue in a way that could give rise to even more suspicious about the President’s faith. Graham who is president and CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) told CNN's John King in an interview,"I think the president's problem is that he was born a Muslim, his father was a Muslim. The seed of Islam is passed through the father like the seed of Judaism is passed through the mother. He was born a Muslim, his father gave him an Islamic name. Now it's obvious that the president has renounced the prophet Mohammed, and he has renounced Islam, and he has accepted Jesus Christ. That's what he says he has done. I cannot say that he hasn't. So I just have to believe that the president is what he has said." Graham also said that "the Islamic world sees the president as one of theirs."
White House spokesman Bill Burton promptly responded to Graham Franklin's comments at a White House briefing Friday, saying that the president Obama is “a committed Christian” and that “Graham is entitled to his opinion”.
