Forbes reported today that an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico exploded. The offshore oil rig is located west of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill site. The vermilion oil rig 380 was operated by Mariner Energy.
The 13 workers jumped into the water and have been rescued, as USA Today reports. The accident happened 92 miles off the coast of Louisiana. The crew members were picked up by a ship that was cruising nearby. Only one of the workers had some minor injuries, while the other 12 seem to be completely fine.

At the time of this writing it is not known whether there are more men on the platform and whether there is still a fire or not. But at least the thing did not end in a disaster as far as the 13 crew members are concerned.
This incident gives food for the thought to limit the offshore drilling and put more emphasis on other sources of energy, like for example wind and solar energy. Alternative form of energy are available, but they are not used to the extend that is possible.
