A tropical storm has formed in the Gulf of Mexico, Tropical Storm Hermine. The Mexican Government has issued a hurricane watch from Rio San Fernando northward to Baffin Bay Texas. A tropical storm warning has also been issued from La Cruz Mexico northward to Port Oconnor Texas.

Tropical Storm Hermine is moving north-northwest at 13 miles per hour. Hermine's maximum wind speed so far has been 60 miles per hour. That speed is forecast to rise, with the possibility that Hermine will become a hurricane before making landfall.

On the forecast track, the center of Hermine is expected to approach the coast of northeastern Mexico, or extreme southern Texas in the warning area tonight.

Storm surge will raise water levels by as much as 2 to 4 feet above ground level along the immediate coast near and to the north of where the center makes landfall.

Hermine is also expected to produce rainfall accumulations of 4 to 8 inches over northeastern Mexico and south Texas, with a possible isolated maximum amount of 12 inches possible. These rains could cause life-threatening flash floods and mudslides, so it's good to be aware that they can happen.

In other tropical cyclone news, about 400 miles east of the Northern Leeward Islands, showers and thunderstorms have become less organized during the past few hours.
