Oracle Corp. announced late on Monday that it had hired Mark Hurd as co-president, and that Hurd will sit on the company's board of directors. Also, on Monday, Oracle said that Charles Philips had resigned his post as a co-president, as well as his seat on the board. Philips had been a key member of Oracle's executive team since 2003. They did not say why he left, and whether or not it had anything to do with Hurd's appearance.

Hurd will report directly to Oracle's CEO Larry Elison.

"Mark did a brilliant job at HP and I expect he'll do even better at Oracle," Ellison said in a statement. "There is no executive in the IT world with more relevant experience than Mark," he continued.

Ellison publicly stood behind Hurd and blasted the HP board after Hurd's August 6 exit.

When Hurd departed from Hewlett-Packard, executives said that Hurd, who is married, failed to tell the board about a personal relationship with a femal marketing contractor hired by his office. He filed inaccurate expense account reports in order to keep the relationship a secret, HP said.

Jodie Fisher, an actress who had been employed as a contractor for HP, subsequently came forward and said that there had been no sexual relationship between them. However, this came to late, and Hurd left HP.

Well, we will see how this works out, and maybe Hurd will make Oracle expand and grow, or on the other hand, maybe it's too soon for him to get back on a board, maybe the whole thing from HP hasn't blown over yet.

That's not for us to judge though, so we won't. We'll just wait and see.

Hurd was actually a very important man for HP, he was credited with reviving Hewlett-Packard following his predecessor, Carly Fiorina, who didn't do such a great job.

"As Oracle continues to grow we need people experienced in operating a $100 billion business," said Safra Catz, who is Oracle's other co-president.
