[caption id="attachment_8266" align="" width="360" caption="An Artist\'s Ping Profile"]An Artist's Ping Profile[/caption]Ping was released two days ago by Apple Inc. It was released as a music-centered social network for iTunes. It's purpose was to get users to discover new songs and artists, and also for users to have a way to interact with artists and friends, all in one place.

Over the past two days the music social network has garnered over 1 million users. Ping also offers over 17,000 concert listings. It's relatively user friendly and the people that are using it are, to my knowledge, liking it.

However, Ping has had a rocky road since its launch on Wednesday. Apple's new social network has been hit very hard with comment spam and international availability issues. Also, the company has had up-and-down talks with Facebook over integrations and API usage.

In addition to the above, the media has not been really friendly about it.

That hasn't stopped droves of people from trying it out, however. Apple says that 1/3 of users who have downloaded iTunes 10 have joined Ping. Many more people will download iTunes 10 in the coming weeks, so Apple expects that the Ping community will keep growing.

It's doubted that Ping will over come the user bases on major social networks, however, it will probably become a pretty big network soon. They will have to add a lot more options before they can surpass Facebook or MySpace, however.

The biggest complaint I have with Ping is that you can't say anything. I mean you can comment, but you can't just state something on your profile for your followers to see. That's what really bugs me, and it's a bit confusing to use and figure out, but besides that, it's good for what it does.
