For weeks now, we have been watching the public warranted outrage over the salaries of public officials in a little town in California – and the people have a right to be outraged over these salaries of some of the public officials that dwarfed that of our President.
For those who have not followed the news that closely, this is in regards to the salary scandal in Bell, where most council members are earning nearly $100,000 for part-time work, far more than the $400-a-month stipend recommended for a city the size of Bell. The Los Angeles Times is reporting that now the politicians are scrambling to enact legislation to curtail these salaries - but we should be wary of the unintended consequences.
There was a move afoot long before what came to light in California to interfere with contractual salaries for CEOs; one of the most despicable displays of bullying and bias was done in Connecticut when union thugs surrounded the home of an AIG big-wig, supposedly because he was being paid a hefty salary. But why stop at the over paid city managers or the company CEOs who receive funds from the public coffers? Why not go after the salaries of those celebrities who are always smarting over the CEO salaries? We have heard Michael Moore espousing this wealth transfer mantra – but his own millions are intact and from his corpulent looks, he hasn’t missed many meals.
In the brilliant movie, “The Other Guys,” that this blogger reviewed, at the end of the movie, it proselytizes about CEO salaries. I say again how many movie stinkers that Will Ferrell made – did he give back the loot he skillfully negotiated with the assist from agents and lawyers?
All these blabbering idiot savants have their agents and lawyers negotiate their respective lucrative deals, but always want others, who negotiated their salaries too in good faith, to give up their earnings. Yesterday, I blogged about the Hollywood stars salaries, including news and cable personalities, and the same criticism I have for the movie stars, I have also for news casters too.
The next time you hear Katie Couric or Keith Olbermann bitching about salaries or the like - tell them, you first! Miss Couric currently makes $15 million annually for being in last place in conveying the nightly news, while Olbermann makes $7 million for his prime time show that barely garners a million viewers, while Beck who comes on at 5 p.m. more than doubles Olbermann’s audience and makes much less. Our President received $5 million for his next book and if that book doesn’t sell, do we think that he would return what he negotiated?
In addition, President Obama’s former pay Czar is a partner at his "White Shoe" law firm… and, as a lawyer, I have a good idea how much Mr. Feinberg makes – do you think that he still gets a cut of the firm's annual revenues; can we give him a pay cut too? I can go on and on about the musicians and the sports personalities that our President hangs out with. Hypocrisy abounds in those advocating and embracing elements of socialism.
