Every year in August the Beloit College come out with "Beloit College Mindset List". This list tries to evaluate what is important in the lives of students aside from their campus live and list events that might be responsible for adding their touch to the quality of a class.

The list is the mind child of Beloit’s Keefer Professor of the Humanities Tom McBride and former Public Affairs Director Ron Nief. The original purpose was just to have a reference current events.

Based on that list Korean-made cars on highways are nothing special. Wristwatches are replaced by cell phones and cursive writing is unknown. 500 TV channels are the norm and Russia has never been an enemy for them.

Most students that are entering college this fall in their first year will be graduating in 2014 and most of them were born in 1992.

For the class of 2014 John McEnroe is completely unknown as a professional tennis player and Clint Eastwood is probably known as a film director, but as the main actor in For a Few Dollars More or Dirty Harry.

Here some other interesting entries:

Once they got through security, going to the airport has always resembled going to the mall.

J.R. Ewing has always been dead and gone. Hasn’t he?

They have never worried about a Russian missile strike on the U.S.

Walmart has never sold handguns over the counter in the lower 48.

Some of these facts can indeed be very important. But most of them area matter of opinion. It's very interesting to read the list and look at what we now take for granted, what was not there before 1992.

Beloit college gets a lot of media attention as a result from this list. If you happen to run a college or university, why don't you take a good look at the list and conceive of something similar.
