As reported earlier, there are many
road closures in Iowa as a result of the flooding. Thousands of Ames residents were awakened about 5 a.m. today by "Code Red Alert" phone calls warning of the potential for unprecedented flooding throughout the city, according to
demoinregister.com .
Residents in lower lying areas receive automated phone alerts as soon as water level are rising. Two churches, the First Christian Church and St. Cecelia's Catholic Church have already opened shelters. The shelters are already filled with residents that had to evacuate their homes.
The whole scene seems to be very much under control by official. Since Tuesday there is already an emergency operations center open to help coordinate the flood response.
American Red Cross said its opening shelters to help those affected by the flooding Wednesday.
