[/caption]The Ferrari 458 Italia is now the latest addition to the relatively long list of the vehicles that have been recently recalled. Ferrari showed that recalls don't just effect the lower brands, they can also happen with high end cars, with its recall of its new 458 Italia model. The vehicle is being recalled after several of the vehicles suddenly burst into flames.
The cause of the fire appears to be due to a defect in the wheelhouse assembly. A Ferrari spokesperson explained the issue to CNNMoney.com as:
"In rare instances the heat shield would become deformed, bringing it too close to the exhaust system and igniting."
All of its 458 Italia models are being recalled by Ferrari after five different fires were reported in California, Switzerland, France and China.
Deliveries of the car in the United States began this summer. It has a 4.5-liter 8-cylinder engine, 7-speed automatic transmission, and 570 horsepower. Its base price is around $230,000.
Ferrari said that the company is asking owners of the cars that were produced before July 2010, to bring them in to have the glue replaced with mechanical fasteners.

[/caption]The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration released a statement saying the Ferrari's Italian headquarters had told its North American division about the recall. NHTSA warned that if the adhesive ignites, it could "render the vehicle inoperable and possibly result in a crash."

303 vehicles are being recalled, and owners could be eligible for reimbursement if they spent money on repairs related to the problem before the recall was announcements.
Ferrari North America will start notifying its affected customers within two weeks, according to the NHTSA.
Ferrari is going to have to do something mighty good to get this off their reputation. You can't just build cars that light up in flames when you drive them and expect it not to affect your business.
