Don't get me wrong, I love BlackBerry. But I mean THE BlackBerry. It looks like that in the midst of all this smartphone craze the guys who invented the smartphone, forgot what their brand is all about: a fat, QWERTY keyboard sitting squarely on the phone.

Now they come out with a cheap slide-out keyboard. It might be designed well, when it's opened for typing, but it's not there when it's not in use. But there it belongs, the keyboard.

August 3, 2010 will be remembered as the day when the BlackBerry died. Google, Motorola and Apple will be dancing with joy. Motorola did a couple attempts with a slide-out keyboard and failed miserably. Apple was smart enough to not burn their fingers with such cheap kids toys.

If RIMM's new phone (The company who makes the BlackBerry is Research in Motion. They call themselves RIM and the ticker symbol is RIMM) would be the thing, it's stock price would honor that. The RIMM stock price was nicely increasing until yesterday in anticipation of a new phone. After the finance world saw the ugly, cheap thing that hides who it is, the stock price fell as investors tried to get out as fast as possible.

The BlackBerry Torch's only use is probably to light it's own funeral. How can a company go so wrong? If somebody in there is smart, they would find who on earth suggested and pushed through that "new" design and fire that person, along with a nice, fat, keep-your-mouth-shut compensation plan.

Have you ever looked at phones in a store? I mean were they have all these nice phones that you can touch. Whenever there was a slide phone, it was broken, as far as I can tell. Invites kids to play, but that's about all they are good for.

A BlackBerry without a visible keyboard is like a Ferrari without the horse or a Rolls-Royce without the Emily or Coca-Cola without the nice, rounded bottle. Took Coke years to realize that.

RIMM closed with $55.53, $1.45 or 2.54% down from yesterday.
