Belize is a country in Central America. Belize has a diverse society, comprising many cultures and languages. Although Kriol and Spanish are spoken among the population, Belize is the only country in Central America where English is the official language. Belize is bordered by Mexico to its north, by Guatemala  to its south and west, and by the Caribbean Sea to the east.

As Yahoo reports, you can retire comfortably for under $1,500 a month in Belize. They give  a sample budget for couple living a comfortable expatriate lifestyle in Belize:
--Rent: $300

--Utilities, telephone, and Internet: $500 (Your biggest expense in this country.)

--Groceries: $150

--Health insurance: $50

--Entertainment: $100

--Car expenses: $300

That's $1,400 per month.If you social security paycheck is about that and you try to live in the U.S. with it, you probably would not be able to squeeze a car out of that. And a house on the water: well, you could dream about it. You might be able to enjoy fishing from a public pier, but not from your own backyard.
