It took Alex Rodriguez some forty seven times at bat to go from 599 to reach the milestone 600 home runs, according to the New York Times.
Mr. Rodriguez is the youngest to reach this storied plateau at the tender age 35 and change. For weeks, those of us who follow sports were waiting for the milestone, but Alex kept on failing to do so. Finally, in the inning today, in a game against the Toronto Blue jays, Alex Rodriguez “went yard” and became part of the baseball history books.
I know there are those who are going to say that he had the benefits of performance enhancement drugs to assist him to the plateau, but that is a debate for another juncture.
Mr. Rodriguez is the highest paid athlete in baseball and his signing has paid much dividends – he garnered his first World Series ring last year and now comes the mile stone 600 home runs.
He has been plagued with a hip issue, but apparently all that is in his rear view mirror and he is the same dangerous slugger he was in the past… hoping to take the Yankees deep into October and to the baseball promise land for the 28th times.
Incidentally, it was not only a milestone for Alex Rodriguez, but the Yankees also won the game 5-1. Mr. Rodriguez is the seventh player to reach that mile stone of hitting 600 hundred or more home runs; up next for Alex is the 609 home runs mark held by Sammy Sosa – no doubt that this can be had before the end of this season.
