This is an interesting step coming from the secretive Asian nation.
So far, the nation has issued 9 tweets. As said above it has over 2600 followers, while it follows no one. South Korea blocks the site, and few people in North Korea even have access to a computer.
The country is building a steady following, however, it is questionable whether or not they will gain as many followers as other countries/world leaders. For example, Barack Obama, the President of the United States, has almost 5 million followers on Twitter and the Jordan Queen, Rania Al Abdullah has over 1.3 million followers.
To give you an idea of the following it is getting, when this article was being written they had 2500 followers. Now, they already have 2600 followers and rising.
This is the second time that North Korea has made a move in the world of social networking. Earlier this year, the country posted video clips on YouTube, the world's largest video sharing site.
One of the country's tweets dismissed accusations that a North Korean torpedo sank a South Korean warship in March. The country also posted video clips on YouTube which praised leader Kim Jong-II and also denied its role in the sinking.
Other tweets criticized U.S.-led sanctions on North Korea and Iran.
So far, it seems that the country just wants to gain a big following so that it can have a greater influence on the social world. This may or may not be an attempt to influence people into sympathizing with the nation.
