Have you ever heard of Google's "Doodle 4 Google" contest? If not, the contest is where Google invites students K-12 to use their artistic skill to create a Google logo for use on the Google homepage for a day.
This year's Doodle 4 Google winner is Makenzie Melton. Makenzie now has a $15,000 college scholarship, a netbook computer and a $25,000 technology grant for a new computer lab at her school.
Makenzie Melton is a third-grader from El Dorado Springs, Missouri. She submitted a doodle titled "Rainforest Habitat" to the contest. Her entry was chosen from over ...
33,000 submission by students ranging from kindergarten to twelfth grade. This is quite an accomplishment.
The doodle expresses Makenzie's concern that "the rainforest is in danger and it is not fair to the plants and animals.” It will appear on the Google homepage on Thursday, May 27, 2010.
This contest is a very nice opportunity for students to get a really nice prize and a really, really great sense of accomplishment.
The contest is based on the them, "If I could do anything, I would..." This gives student's a very broad area of ideas to choose from.
A panel of “well-known illustrators, cartoonists and animators” helped choose the winning doodle, according to the Official Google Blog.
Update: The doodle is now live on Google! Visit Google.com to see it in its full glory! Congratulation s, Makenzie! It is definitely not everyone who can get their drawing on the Google homepage.
