Venus Williams French Open Outfit: Was She Wearing Lingerie on the Tennis Court?

Oh la la, that is what I imagine my French brothers uttered when they saw that risqué outfit that tennis player Venus Williams was wearing during the opening rounds of the French Open. In observing Venus’ outfit, I thought that it was a Playboy Magazine spread with a sports theme.

Granted, I know nothing about fashion, but I don’ think that what Venus wore was appropriate, even though she did so in a French forum. I do not know how many children attended the opening rounds, but the fact that the Williams sisters are a big box office draw, then, I supposed there were many children in the audience.

For me and other adults, Venus’ lingerie outfit was not a big deal because I can see that or worse displayed in the Macy’s windows down virtually many avenues of New York. I am only objecting because of the children who frequent these games.

I am not going to advocate and require a stringent way of dressing like how they do during England’s Wimbledon, but there must be some standards. The truth is whatever outfits that are given the green light to be worn during the given Tennis tournaments will be subjective. I once read a law case that dealt with pornography… where one of the Supreme Court Justices, Potter Stewart, while observing the pictures deemed pornographic, said, “I do not know what pornography is, but I’ll know it when I see it.” This is the conclusion that you will come to when you see the outfit Venus Williams was wearing; yet not agreeing if it were appropriate for that venue.
