There have been many accusations in this whole crisis, people have blaming various other people for the oil spill. There are facts, however, that some people do not know.
It is wrong to blame people for doing something when you don't know the facts. So, I am going to tell you some facts and based on that you can decide who you want to blame or attack. I am not saying that you should go off blaming people for the oil spill. So, we begin.
There have been people who said that the Obama Administration did not react fast enough. Here is a fact directly from President Barack Obama himself, "The day that the rig collapsed and fell to the bottom of the ocean, I had my team in the Oval Office that first day. Those who think that we were either slow on our response or lacked urgency don’t know the facts. This has been our highest priority since this crisis occurred."
He continues to say, "Personally, I’m briefed every day and have probably had more meetings on this issue than just about any issue since we did our Afghan review. And we understood from day one the potential enormity of this crisis and acted accordingly. So when it comes to the moment this crisis occurred, moving forward, this entire White House and this entire federal government has been singularly focused on how do we stop the leak, and how do we prevent and mitigate the damage to our coastlines.
The challenge we have is that we have not seen a leak like this before, and so people are going to be frustrated until it stops. And I understand that. And if you’re living on the coast and you see this sludge coming at you, you are going to be continually upset, and from your perspective, the response is going to be continually inadequate until it actually stops. And that's entirely appropriate and understandable."
This tells you one thing, you can't honestly say that the Obama Administration did not react to the crisis fast enough.
In an earlier speech, Obama commented on the spill, "I also want to stress that we are working closely with the Gulf states and local communities to help every American affected by this crisis. Let me be clear: BP is responsible for this leak; BP will be paying the bill. But as President of the United States, I'm going to spare no effort to respond to this crisis for as long as it continues. And we will spare no resource to clean up whatever damage is caused. And while there will be time to fully investigate what happened on that rig and hold responsible parties accountable, our focus now is on a fully coordinated, relentless response effort to stop the leak and prevent more damage to the Gulf."
BP officials and Transocean officials have been blaming each other over who was responsible for the explosion aboard the Deepwater Horizon. Fact is, the rig was leased by BP from Transocean. This could cause some confusion over who might be responsible because, after all it was Transocean's rig, however, BP was responsible for the condition of the rig at the time that it sunk. This means that if you really wanted to pull it apart BP was responsible for the spill.
So, there you have some facts. This is not meant to come across that you now decide to rant against BP, or anyone for that matter. It would indeed be best if everyone would be willing to to do something to help. Whether it be a small thing like writing a letter of encouragement to the people working to clean up this mess or whether it be something bigger like going to volunteer to help the clean up efforts. Any help that you can provide is sure to make some difference.
An inspiring end note from the President, "So the thing that the American people need to understand is that not a day goes by where the federal government is not constantly thinking about how do we make sure that we minimize the damage on this, we close this thing down, we review what happened to make sure that it does not happen again. And in that sense, there are analogies to what’s been happening in terms of in the financial markets and some of these other areas where big crises happen -- it forces us to do some soul searching. And I think that’s important for all of us to do.
In the meantime, my job is to get this fixed. And in case anybody wonders -- in any of your reporting, in case you were wondering who’s responsible, I take responsibility. It is my job to make sure that everything is done to shut this down. That doesn’t mean it’s going to be easy. It doesn’t mean it’s going to happen right away or the way I’d like it to happen. It doesn’t mean that we’re not going to make mistakes. But there shouldn’t be any confusion here: The federal government is fully engaged, and I’m fully engaged."
Obama has taken responsibility for the spill. Now, if anyone still has doubts on whether or not Obama is a good president there you have your proof that if anything, he has done some really admirable things.
