Kwame Kilpatrick was charismatic, eloquent… and could sell ice to an Eskimo, but it all came crashing down with what seemed to be then a very innocuous slight of the law. Kwame Kilpatrick, the ex mayor of Detroit, who was destined to be more, was tripped up by having an affair with a member of his mayoral staff and lying under oath to the contrary.

Today, the dream died for Kwame when he was sentenced to five years in jail; the initial sentence was for two years, but because the ex mayor did not meet the conditions of his initial sentence, which included paying back to the city of Detroit a million dollars.

Kwame compounded the problem by lying to the prosecutors about how much financial means he had, and moreover, hiding said funds.

When the prosecutors found the hidden and proved it to the court, the judge increased his sentence. Some of the ex-mayors supporters are comparing him indirectly to Nelson Mandela by invoking the Apartheid mantra for the judge’s sentence.  We would never know how far this charismatic young black leader could have gone; all that is certain is that Kwame Kilpatrick, the ex mayor of Detroit, who had the ears of the powers that be is wearing a ail attire.
