According to the statistics, there are more than 50,000 apps in the Android marketplace, and over 180,000 registered developers working on apps. Also, there are more than 100,000 new activations per day with more than 60 consumer devices running on the Android platform.

Most Android users are loving their mobile devices more than ever. They are sure to welcome FroYo with open arms.

The version of Android that is soon to be released is numbered 2.2 however, it is nicknamed FroYo.

Some of the features of FroYo are:

1. Improved Speed. The next version of Android will have a JIT compiler which will be responsible for a very significant 2x-5x speed boost. This will make it seem like there is no delay on the Android. Things just go, no waiting around.

2. Cloud-to-Device API. Google services, Google Chrome extensions, and the soon-to-be released Chrome apps will be able to sync directly with your Android mobile device. This will be very nice to have, it will include better Exchange support, auto-discovery, new device admin APIs, improved security etc.

3. New Browser. The Javascript interpreter that is behind Google Chrome will be used in FroYo's browser. This will result in a 2x-3x Javascript performance boost.

4. Flash 10.1 and Adobe AIR support. This is not so surprising because both Google and Adobe have said that this will be coming. However, it will still be welcome. It seems like with this, Adobe is trying to get even with Apple for not including Flash support in the iPad.

5. App Auto-Updating. This means no more annoying, as Beta News puts it, "click OK three or four times per update." There will be an "Update All" button and you will be able to "allow automatic updating." This is great news and it will make keeping up-to-date with all your apps easier than ever before.

6. Music Sync. With FroYo, Android users will be able to sync their local music collection with their Android mobil device easily and will be able to stream wirelessly. This will make the Android be able to compete with the iPhone which has the built-in iPod functionality that surpassed all other MP3 players before them as well as all phones before them. Finally, some competition in the MP3/Phone market! This will be nice to watch.

7. Web-Based Android Market. This will be very useful as you will be able to see more than just what is shown on your device's screen. This will make the Android apps so much more appealing.

8. Install apps on SD memory. With other Android versions, you were limited to installing apps on the physical memory of your device. With FroYo you will be able to install and launch apps from your removable SD card.

9. WiFi Tethering Confirmed. This means that by using your mobile device's unlimited data plan, FroYo handsets can use their WiFi chips like a wireless router to provide Internet to other devices.

10. Improved Camera Software. The saying, "The best camera is the one you have with you" will apply to FroYo. You will be a lot happier with the new camera software and user interface. The auto-rotation menus will be very useful.

11. Improved Google Voice Search. Google has really refined the Google Voice Search for the Android FroYo. You will now be able to have accurate results for even very complex search phrases.
