Nash Bridges was a popular American drama about police inspectors with the San Francisco police department, that ran for 6 seasons from 1996 until 2001.
Since the show was first aired it has been broadcast around the world, making it a household name in countries that the show’s original producers never could have expected.
Don Johnson co-created and starred in the show, alongside Cheech Marin, for all 6 seasons that it was aired on CBS.
Since the show was canceled, Don Johnson has been working with the show’s producers to obtain the royalties he claims that he is entitled to, from when the show was running and making money.
In 2009 Johnson decided to take the producer to court so that he could finally obtain to money he is owed.
Don Johnson’s case rested on the argument that he was half owner of the rights to Nash Bridges, along with the show’s producer, Rysher Entertainment.
The jury awarded Johnson the $23.2 million dollars that he was entitled to over the course of the show’s airing, CBC reports.
Johnson is very pleased that the jury was able to recognize that he did in fact own 50% of the rites to the show, and was entitled to half of the profits.
Johnson maintains that the court case was not just about money, and that it was important for him to be recognized as one of the main contributors to the cultural phenomenon that Nash Bridges became.
