On September 6, 2010 is Labor Day, a federal holiday Labor Day in the United States. Labor Day was first celebrated on September 5, 1882 in New York City and is since then observed on the first Monday in September in all 50 states every year.
Labor Day is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country. President Grover Cleveland declared Labor Day a national holiday in 1894.
As the weather is usually nice during this time of the year, most Americans use Labor Day for some kind of outside event or picnic or barbecue. Or it is often used as an opportunity to make a short vacation. Around Labor Day the NFL and college football season starts. College football usually starts the week before Labor Day and NFL games usually start the Thursday after Labor Day.
Here the address of Hilda Solis, the Secretary of Labor.
