Well, the Apple September 1st conference has ended with the expected new releases of the 2011 iPods. Apple definitely did not disappoint, however, they did surprise us with shocking redesigns. The iPod Shuffle, nano and touch all received some serious makeovers while the iPod Classic stayed the same. It's not surprising that the iPod classic didn't change, after all, once you name something "Classic" it's pretty hard to change it. Some people even speculated that Apple would take the iPod Classic off the market, however, it's not going anywhere just yet. If they had done that, it wouldn't have been a good move as thats the iPod that changed the music industry for ever.

The iPod Shuffle headed back to its roots with the round buttons and slightly bigger body. It's a welcome change as if you had the previous model you will know that if you lost your headphones you couldn't change the song. With buttons, it doesn't matter what kind of headphones you have, you don't have to control the music with them. Also, the battery life has been bumped to 15 hours and $10 has been taken off the price. The new 2GB model will be available next week for $49 in a variety of colors.

The most drastic of all iPod updates this year: the All New 2011 iPod Nano. This iPod got a huge makeover. Most importantly, it got a multi-touch screen. It's become a small square shaped thing that looks like an iPod Shuffle. The difference, however, is the fact the the iPod Nano has a touch screen instead of buttons. The screen has 4 iPhone-style icons on the home screen and, to tell the truth, looks pretty amazing. I think it's going to be the iPod Favorite this year. Its cost stays the same, $149 for 8GB and $179 for 16GB. Most of the features we have come to love on the iPod Nano have stayed, with the exception of video capabilities. You can't watch movies or TV shows on the new Nano. That's pretty self explanatory as the screen is pretty small and square so even if you could, you probably wouldn't want to.

The iPod Touch redesign was expected, it got the rear and front facing cameras, the A4 processor, gyroscope, HD video-capable camera etc. It's basically gone back to what it has been, an iPhone without the phone. That could be confusing as it leads you to believe that it's just an i, however, it's an iPod and then you add the Touch to describe what kind of iPod it is. The most important thing that the new iPod Touch got was the "retina" display. This is what we've all been looking forward to and now we've got it. The iPod Touch will start shipping next week. It ships in 8GB, 32GB, and 64GB varieties, which costs $220, $299, and $399 respectively.

So, that's the new iPod line up, I hope you will enjoy these new devices, because I know I will.

Another thing that was announced at the Apple Conference was iTunes 10 with its new social network, Ping.
