ITunes 10 has been announced at the Apple Conference on Wednesday. It's a major upgrade to the previous music jukebox and media management software. One big difference is the change of the icon. The iTunes logo has been the CD with the music note over it for almost a decade. Now, it's different. It's still got the music note, but it's on a different background, a dark one.

The leading change in this version is the social networking component aimed at helping users discover new music. Apple CEO Steve Jobs described that feature, which is called Ping, as "Facebook and Twitter meet iTunes." Ping is a major component of the iTunes Store. It's an opt-in social network that lets customers follow their favorite artists, and be followed by their friends.
You can find out what kind of music an artist likes, and you can also pick up a few recommendations with Ping. Also, you can find photos and status updates from artists. Also, you can add comments to join in on the conversation. By following your friends, you can find what kind of music your friends are buying and listening to. This enables you to find new music that you like. Also, you can find music fans and you can invite people with email.
Another thing that's new with iTunes 10 is AirPlay. It's basically a new system that will be coming to speakers that allows you to play music throughout your entire house, wirelessly. It does this through Wi-Fi and special software built in to certain speakers.
The new capacity bar tells you how much room is left on your device in real time, and also, the synchronization process has been streamlined.

Basically, iTunes 10 is the best version of the music purchasing and media management software and it has plenty of new features for music lovers and iPod lovers alike.
The only really, really sad part about iTunes 10 is that they still haven't added Linux support...
