TMZ reports that comedian Robert Schimmel died earlier today after suffering severe injuries in a car accident on August 26, 2010. His car met the accident on Interstate Highway 10 in Pheonix, Arizona. He was immediately moved to a hospital Phoenix but he couldn’t recover from injuries he suffered in the accident.

Robert George "Bob" Schimmel who turned 60 in January this year, became famous for his stand-up comedy acts on HBO’s “The Howard Stern Show”.  He was on the passenger seat in a car along with his 11 year old son, and his 19-year old daughter Aliyah Schimmel. His daughter was driving the car when she had to make an evasion movement to avoid a collision ahead of their car. The car went out of her control and the side move made the vehicle roll on the side, injuring both father and daughter. Shimmel’s son fortunately remained uninjured. Shimmel and his daughter were taken to the Pheonix hospital where he was said to be in “critical condition”, but he couldn’t survive at the end. His daughter survived and is in a better physical condition now.

Schimmel’s comedy acts were often criticized for being X-rated and controversial. However his edgy style of comedy was quite famous among the audience. According to Wikipedia, he stood 76 on the 2004 program “Comedy Central Presents: 100 Greatest Stand-Ups Of All Time”.  Schimmel had six children, four from his first wife Vicky and two sons from the second wife Melissa.
