It appears that Facebook is testing a new feature. This feature is the ability to "subscribe" to a person. As in, you would get a notification every time someone updates they status, comments on something, posts a photo etc.

A Facebook user who has seen the feature said that, "By subscribing you don't miss any updates from people you subscribe to."

This could serve as a useful item, if added to pages. This would enable users to never miss an update from their most important pages and what they have a lot of interest in. On a personal note, however, the button could rather be called "stalk" button. Do you really want someone following your every move on Facebook? I mean, that's kind of weird, even for a close friend. Granted, they will want to know what you're up to, but it's a bit extreme to get a notification for every little thing.

Facebook said, "This feature is being tested with a small percent of users. It lets people subscribe to friends and pages to receive notifications whenever the person they've subscribed to updates their status or posts new content (photos, videos, links, or notes)."

If this feature is fully released, there is going to have to be a setting that controls how it's used. If a person doesn't want to be "subscribed" to, or rather, followed they should be able to set that in their privacy settings.

It seems, with this move, that Facebook is going towards the Twitter side of social networking, the side that's all about "following".

Who knows, maybe this feature won't even come out for public use. For now, all there is is waiting and wondering.
