The eggs that were recalled recently are seemingly still causing some stir. The FDA recently announced: New Final Rule to Ensure Egg Safety, Reduce Salmonella Illnesses Goes Into Effect.

If you read the "new rule", you wonder why there are not more cases witslamonella. The things that are spelled out in the "new rule" and things that most likely every mother told their daughter (or son) in regards to cooking. Basic laws of refrigeration and hygiene were obviously not followed.

From the new egg safety rule:
"Among other things, it requires them to adopt preventive measures and to use refrigeration during egg storage and transportation."

And further down in the document, more specific:
"Refrigerate eggs at 45 degrees F during storage and transportation no later than 36 hours after the eggs are laid (this requirement also applies to egg producers whose eggs receive a treatment, such as pasteurization)."

And here another one:
"Clean and disinfect poultry houses that have tested positive for Salmonella Enteritidis."

Holy cow! We live in the year 2010 and the FDA has to make sure that these basic things are followed? Can you believe how stupid these egg companies must be that they need the FDA to tell them these basic things.

The recall affects eggs sold under the following brands: Lucerne, Albertson, Mountain Dairy, Ralph’s, Boomsma’s, Sunshine, Hillandale, Trafficanda, Farm Fresh, Shoreland, Lund, Dutch Farms, and Kemps.

If you bought eggs from any of those brands, you should look for the dates and plant codes that are stamped on the end of the carton or container. The affected plants are P-1026, P-1413, and P-1946. The affected dates range from 136 to 225 (recorded in a scrambled “Julian format”).

For example, eggs in a carton marked with the number P-1413-139 should not be eaten (raw).
