Actor Shia LeBeouf, whose credits include some of the highest-grossing films of the last few years, has decided to come clean regarding some of that box office gold. LeBeouf expressed his disappointment with some of his most recent (blockbuster) vehicles, including “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.” And LeBeouf saved most of the blame for himself.
“You can blame it on the writer, and you can blame it on Steven (Spielberg, director). But the actor’s job is to make it come alive, and make it work, and I couldn’t do it. So that’s my fault. Simple,” LeBeouf said at Cannes recently. He also said that he “dropped the ball on the legacy that people loved and cherished,” and that the movie’s star, Harrison Ford, wasn’t happy with the final result, either.
But that wasn’t the only sequel LeBeouf skewered with sharp words. “Transformers 2” was a major hit when it was released last year, but LeBeouf considers it a major disappointment, saying the film missed the boat on the relationships built in the first film. “Unless you have those relationships, then the movie doesn’t matter,” he said. “Then it’s a bunch of robots fighting each other.”
While LeBeouf isn’t proud of them, both movies were hits with movie-goers. The latest “Indiana Jones” film grossed more than $300 million in the United States, in addition to almost $470 million from foreign markets. “Transformers 2” was an even-bigger hit, grossing more than $400 million in the United States and another $434 million from foreign markets.
Of course, those negative opinions haven’t stopped LeBeouf from filming more sequels. He was in Cannes promoting his work in the upcoming “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps,” which is a sequel to the 1987 film. And he’s already working on “Transformers 3,” due to be released next summer.
