The Post and TMZ are reporting that the current and eighth wife of famous CNN’s celebrity interviewer, Larry King, Shawn, took an overdose of prescription pills. This apparent overdose happened late last month and Shawn’s father had to call the paramedics when he found her unresponsive in her bed.

The question that everyone is asking was the overdose accidental or an attempt by Shawn to commit suicide - the evidence might be pointing to the latter. Reportedly found in Shawn’s possession were over eight prescriptions pills running the gamut for treatment for anxiety and narcotic addiction.

No one knows if King and his wife, Shawn’s recent marital woes, which included the charges of infidelity on both parties part, contributed to Shawn’s mental state. The authorities in Utah are not divulging if the notes found spoke on why the Shawn took the pills.

Giving credence to the claim that the current wife of Larry King wanted to commit suicide was the fact that one of the notes found by her bed that had the instructions to bury her in Utah. If the overdose of pills taken by Shawn were just an accidental overdose… why the note with such specific instructions… designating Utah as her final resting place?

The article did not say where the two children of the Kings were during this overdose. The supposed lover of Shawn came forward weeks ago claiming he had an affair with her… one of the entertainment program even went so far as giving the alleged lover of Shawn a lie detector test, which he passed with flying colors.

There were also claims that Larry had an affair with Shawn’s sister - King on his part denied any such relationships with his wife’s sister. Lovers or not, the Kings decided then to withdraw what was then their pending divorce and reconcile. Another question that begs itself is if there is going to be an investigation for the eight prescriptions?

  1. Eight anxiolytic/pain pills is neither a dangerous "overdose" nor an "addicton". The average legitimate prescription for Xanax (i.e. for anxiety)) would be at least 30 pills, and for Lortab (i.e. for post-surgical pain) it would be 20-30 pills.

This does not appear to be a true suicide attempt, although it's possible that this may have been a "suicide gesture", where there is the appearance of trying to commit suicide, but the individual is certain of being found before death, or makes phone calls to friends so that the friends can respond and keep the individual alive. A suicide gesture is a cry for help from a troubled soul.

On the other hand, this very likely could have been a case of innocent misuse of prescription medications (i.e. taking two medications that should not be taken together because of synergistic effects) that depress the brain and breathing.

I'm saddened by the difficulties the Kings are experiencing in their marriage, and wish them the best as they attempt to reconcile. At this difficult time, the media, of course, should report the facts, but should not bend over backwards to sensationalize the issue. Referring to a likely "suicide" attempt with only eight pills, that Shawn was taking prescription pills for an "addiction", and calling for a legal investigation is unwarranted and inaccurate.
