President Obama and president Medvedev of Russia met at lunch on Thursday, June 24. They discussed about more exports to Russia and President Medvedev was looking for more american investments, especially in technology from the states.
“Twenty years after the end of the Cold War, the U.S.-Russian relationship has to be about more than just security and arms control,” said President Obama.
Part of their discussion was that they had to do certain things for each other for both USA, and Russia to be in agreement. The united states promised to make a stronger effort to get Russia to be part of the World trade organization. President Medvedev promised to lift the barriers on the imports on the American chickens. They agreed to use clean-energy technologies.
President Obama is trying to make the United States of America's relationship with Russia a lot stronger. In August 2008 Russia waged war on Georgia an American ally, this did not please the USA. After their discussions they seemed to agree that they had many differences because of this dispute with Georgia, yet they decided to put it aside for the best of both their countries.
Klaus Kleinfeld part of the US- Russia Business counsel seemed to be glad of the new arrangements being made with Russia. It'll provide a lot more opportunities for both countries economically. Mr. Kleinfeld cited “a new quality in the relations both in politics and business". Not the relationship of the two presidents.
“The two leaders are really getting along very well, there’s a lot of progress on the political front,” he said, adding, “Business will now follow.”
