The United States Open Championship is the annual open golf tournament of the United States. It is usually referred to as the U.S. Open. The U.S. open is staged at a variety of courses. It is set up in a way that scoring is very difficult. Rather, a premium is placed on accurate driving.

This year is the 2010 U.S. Open. It has been many years since the first U.S. open which was played on October 4, 1895. The game hasn't changed much, however the players have.

One of the main players this year will, of course, be Tiger Woods. He has been playing for years and think that he will do really well in this year's tournament.

The 2010 U.S. Open is at the Pebble Beach Golf Links. It began under overcast skies with a pretty cold air.

It's nice to see all these experienced and amateur golfers alike gathered here at Pebble Beach for the U.S. Open. It's been a while and it's good to be back for everybody.

“Instead of someone trying to make 72 pars,” Phil Mickelson said, “what I think we’ll see is people willing to take chances.”

Well, according to the New York Times, "In the event’s first few hours, a slew of known and unknown golfers seemed eager to prove Mickelson correct. The Australian Stuart Appleby opened the tournament with this run: double bogey, birdie, bogey, bogey. Mikko Ilonen of Finland began with consecutive birdies, then had a double-bogey, followed by two pars, two bogeys and another birdie."

This is a pretty exciting start of the tournament and it's good to see a change in the relative monotone of previous U.S. Opens.
