The ESPN text alerts in general are free, bu ESPN must see a way to make money from this because they are charging a one time fee of $4.99 for World Cup alerts. The New York Times will send you text updates of every goal. The service itself is free, but obviously regular texting rates apply. Text worldcup to 698698. You can not set any additional features like ESPN, but at least it is free!
