Billionaires Bill Gates, CEO of Microsoft and Warren Buffett, CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, came up with the idea of “The Giving Pledge” commitment. Both of the men have formed a team to persuade the world's richest people to give at least half of their wealth to charities.

According to their belief, the most moneyed people can help solve many of the world’s problems by donating their fortune. The Giving Pledge is not an obligatory contract, but it is actually a moral commitment. Yahoo reports that only 40 out of more than 1000 billionaires have so far agreed to follow the giving pledge. However the rest of them have their own reasons not to accept the pledge. Let’s have a look at the profiles of three of those billionaires and find the reasons why they are not joining the giving pledge.

1. Carl Icahn
Wall Street tycoon Carl Icahn hasn’t accepted the Giving Pledge for a strange reason. He has never been approached by the pledge pioneers Buffett and Gates. Carl is very fond of the idea of joining the pledge and he plans to donate a substantial portion of his fortune to help the poor. His net worth is $10.5 billion. With a fortune that big, he must receive a call from Bill Gates as soon as this article gets published.

2. Meg Whitman
EBay’s former CEO and candidate for Govenor in California, Meg Whitman does not want to join the pledge. Neither Buffett nor Gates has ever contacted Whitman, and she would not accept the invitation even if she would receive one from any of them. She runs her own charitable foundation. Her net worth is $1.4 billion.

3. Oprah Winfrey
Last but not the least; our very favorite Oprah Winfrey is also not a part of “The Giving Pledge”. She is one of the riches women in the world with a net worth of about $2.4 billion. Her being the highest-grossing star in entertainment business is undisputable. She is one of the most philanthropic celebrities in the world of entertainment. Her Oprah Winfrey Foundation has donated more than $230 million since 1998. Winfrey has never shown any intention to join the pledge.
