Some Indiana residents that are eligible for unemployment insurance extensions can start applying for them immediately.
It was earlier announced that everybody has to wait until August 3 to apply. The needed computer programming was expected to be finished by August 2, but in the meantime the programming was finished early.
This means that those eligible can start to apply online immediately, and do not have to wait until Tuesday.
The Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD) has begun posting vouchers for eligible Indiana Residents. The Agency estimates that one-third of the vouchers will be available tomorrow.
The Additional Department of Workforce Development will continue to post vouchers on a daily basis. All vouchers will be posted to the website by Tuesday, August 3. It is not necessary that Hosiers (Hoosier is the official term for Indiana residents) check the website all the time. The website is updated during the night. That means checking the system once per day is enough.
“Our team worked extra hours to make sure this complex new law is properly handled in our system. We are now confident that has been accomplished, so Hoosiers can begin filing ahead of schedule,” says Mark W. Everson, Commissioner of the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.
The DWD has 27 full-service WorkOne Centers. They will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday through Friday next week to help handle the anticipated additional traffic. The new federal regulations are estimated to result in about 80,000 Hoosiers becoming eligible for unemployment compensation. This equals nearly 250,000 weeks of payments.
In order to qualify for retroactive unemployment benefits, Indiana residents have to fill out their weekly vouchers, using Indiana’s online filing system. As usual for qualifying for unemployment benefits, it needs to be shown that the worker lost the job without his own wrong-doing. Each week worked needs to be reported and any outside income sources need to be given also, if applicable. For each week of claimed unemployment benefits, one voucher needs to be completed.
For the Extended Benefits, which comes at the end of the benefits period, each person has to apply in person at their local WorkOne Center and bring their eligibility letter from the DWD.
