There are also a few things that you should not do. The most important one is boycotting BP. I am sincerely warning you against this. By boycotting BP you risk that they decide to declare bankruptcy. You might think, "Why, what's wrong with that?" Well, I'll tell you. If BP goes bankrupt before the oil spill is cleaned up, who do you think is going to pay for the damage and for the efforts?
That's right, the federal government. And how will they get more money? Print it? No, increasing taxes or something like that. This way, they prevent an unstoppable inflation, but you lose more money.
So, you can boycott BP, but you will only risk having to spend money on taxes or things like that and getting nothing, or you can continue to buy BP fuel and live knowing that as long as you do this they cannot declare bankruptcy until the spill is cleaned up, at which point they will have a lot to answer for.
Another thing that you should refrain from doing is complaining about or attacking the people who are trying to get this thing cleaned up. They might not be doing a great job in your eyes, however if you don't do your best to support them, I can guarantee that they won't do better.
If you tried to just give the people working on fixing the oil spill and cleaning it up your support and your understanding, you might not make it that much better, however you certainly won't make it worse.
Today we received a suggestion on how to plug the well and stop the oil spill. It has been submitted by Tony Bogacz, Kansas City, MO:

[/caption]Insert a pipe into the well pipe with several huge rubber rings around it. That pipe is connected via a hose to a tanker. Then you weld or clamp an oversized pipe to the well pipe. The over-sized pipe ends in a flange. The flange is about 1 inch thick.
Then there is another flange with a ball valve at the other end. You slide all of this over the pipe while you still are pulling oil out of the well.
After all of it has been assembled, you would pull the small pipe out of the valve and close the valve.
